A Serial Song

Charming chickadees feast
At our feed each day
And I watch them diligently
Picking away,
Breaking through the shells
That cover the feed
Nourishment for life
Like we all need.

They sit on the rosebush
Growing close by
And surrounded by thorns
You'd think they might die,
But I hear them singing
Chick-a-dee-dee
A serial song
Of life's music for me.

Lessons in nature
Are there for us all
When we stop to hear
Life's lingering call,
So I write in thanksgiving
That God has led me
To witness the endurance
Of the charming chickadees.

When we think we are challenged
Beyond our endurance God has
Many ways to break through to us
And send us messages of hope.
