Forgiven

An old man was dying
And he said to his friends,
"I have one last request
Before my time here ends.

Please write on my tombstone
One solitary word,
Forgiven," he told them
" 'Tis life's lesson well learned.

There's no need for a name
Or a choice bible quote,
'Cause I've been Forgiven
I truly have no doubt.

When folks see my tombstone
And they read that one word,
Perhaps they will listen…
A heartfelt message heard.

For without forgiveness
What hope am I sharing,
What peace will I leave you
For all of my caring.

When we have repented
And Jesus has given…
Then we can be certain
That we've been Forgiven."
